Simit & Poacha
Simit & Poacha provides scratch-made baked goods and sandwiches that are authentically Turkish. As the name suggests, they offer poacha, a baked bread bun that may be stuffed with cheese and herbs. Simit is a round, crispy bread covered with sesame seeds, and can contain meat and eggs, as pictured above. Just imagine a bagel, but perfectly crispy rather than doughy or rubbery, with the added flavor of the toppings. Simit alone is worth stopping by the bakery!
Another favorite of mine was the kumru sandwich below, which originated in the beautiful city of Cesme, Turkey. It's just as delicious as it looks, with the sesame toasted bun, beef sausage (soujouk), salami, pickles, mozarrella and mayo. Being a New Orleanian, it gave me hints of a muffaletta, but heavier on the meat and lighter on the pickled flavor -- although now that I think about it, the kumru would be pretty amazing with olive salad....
Parking is simple here; there is a parking in front of the strip mall where Simit & Poacha is.
